Viewing Grades as a Student

Updated on

You're accustomed to viewing and editing your students' grades in Moodle on several different interfaces.  When your students check their grades, they view them on an interface called the User Report.  Teachers don't often view this report, but doing so can help you diagnose and check for grading issues, especially if you set it up to view the grades just as the students.

Access the User Report

  1. In the Course Menu click on Grades.
  2. Click on the gradebook dropdown menu (Grader report).
  3. Select User report from the list of options.

Choose one of your students to view

In the Search users field, begin to type the name of a student.  Any character you type will bring up a list of your students with names that match.

View report as the student

On the right side of the screen, above the report, is the View report as menu.  This menu has two options that determine what you'll see:

  • User will show you the grades as they appear to the student you selected in the last step.  In fact, not only are the grades the same, but the view you see here is exactly what the students see when they check their grades in your course.
  • Myself will display the grades as you see them.  Note that this may be different from how the students see grades.  For example, you may have hidden assignments or quizzes with scores you haven't revealed to the students yet.  You'll see the student's "real" score with these hidden grades calculated in.
